Spiritual Disciplines (poem)

Ski tracks (Spiritual disciplines - poem)
Discipline my body
train my mind
lay down new
paths
for my instincts
and habits
and wear them in -
'til they become
more familiar than the old ways
'til they become
the old ways
the most used trails
well-trod
the quickest to get to
the easiest to go down...

not easy at first
but over time
the paths sought instinctively
the ones most comfortable
old friends
favorites.

spiritual disciplines
laying down new paths
and
wearing them in
but
not just any paths

paths
that begin
where I am
and lead
always
to you.

~
Wear them in...

until my feet
my thoughts
my heart
turn naturally into them
   immediately
   instinctively
   longingly
walking along them steadily
running along them easily
or not so easily
but always the paths I choose
always
to You.
