If I'm using my own power to get myself kicked out of my living quarters, it would be absurd.
A king doesn't split his army in half and have them fight each other. If he did, he would quickly be considered insane. Not only that, but he'll lose his kingdom quickly.
From the inside:
Who would follow him? His subjects will abandon his cause, and maybe even rise up against him.
From the outside:
Who wouldn't use the opportunity to attack him? If he's embroiled in a civil war, he's vulnerable. He doesn't have all his strength to fight.
A kingdom divided up and fighting itself, for whatever reason, can't stand against an outside enemy (Mark 3:24).
A house that isn't united but divided can't withstand what might be thrown against it. It must fall (Mark 3:25).
You were calling their statement foolish and illogical.
(Our attempts to hang on to our little kingdoms usually are).
If Satan is opposing himself, if his kingdom is fighting itself, Then it can't last. It's all over for him. "The end is near for him," You are saying (Mark 3:26).
And it was. Because You were about to tie up the strong man. In a way You already had, and that's why You were able to cast out demons. Or maybe every casting out of a demon was a tying up of the strong man. The way that these people were being set free was not by Satan casting himself out, but because he had been "bound" and couldn't keep You from casting the demons out and rescuing these people who were enslaved. He couldn't keep You from robbing or plundering his "house" (Mark 3:27).
But the real tying up of the strong man would come with Your death on the cross. Then Satan really was "tied up" and You've been "robbing his house" ever since.
Will I let You rob the strong man of...me?
Of this area in my life - of this influence he has over me?
For I am a house divided.
Part of me I've submitted to You.
Part of me I cling to yet.
I cannot stand this way - can't stand, and can't stand it.
But You have entered this house, You have bound the strong man, and You will carry me off even now, robbing him of me, robbing him of this area in my life. If I will let it go.
And I will be that much more part of Your kingdom - committed to Your kingdom - the only kingdom undivided. The only kingdom that will never fall.
You have tied up the strong man in me - then rob him, Lord, rob him - take everything. Take it all.
