No new Mark post today, as I'm not feeling well.  Today I've archived all the posts from Mark 2:13-17.  I hope to post something new on Mark 3 next week.

Binding the Strong Man - Mark 3:20-30 Post 10

Rope. (Binding the Strong Man - Mark 3:20-30 Post 10 brokenbreadandsmallfish.com)
When You're talking about tying up the strong man and carrying off his possessions, You're talking about us.  About me.  (Mark 3:27)

Your power over Satan enables You to cast or drive these demons out.  You're already stronger.  You already have authority over them.  They have to listen to You, and if You say "leave," they have to leave.

Because You are the Son of God.
Because You are the King.

In the coming days, You, by dying on the cross, are going to go a step further.  Without Your death on the cross, we belong to Satan.  We are his possessions*, members of his house. But when You died on the cross, You tied up the strong man.

You defeated Satan.

Now You take his possessions - us - and there is nothing he can do.   Everything is forgiven us, everything, and we can leave Satan's house and return to the house of our Father.  No sin can keep us from You.  There is nothing You will not forgive.  (Mark 3:28)
Except...
choosing to remain in Satan's house.  (Mark 3:29)
You will not plunder the possessions that refuse to be plundered.

The Holy Spirit comes, whispering to us "You can be free" -
Do we hear Him?
He tells us over and over - but for how long?
The chance to leave Satan's house is wide open -
we can go home, Jesus WILL receive us, Satan cannot hinder it - but for how long?  You will come and snatch us out of Satan's hand - in an instant - You will rescue us and bring us to Your household at the slightest word from us - but the doors will not be wide open forever.  And our refusal to hear and respond to the Holy Spirit will become an eternal sin.  We will be stuck with that choice forever.

*We aren't his true possessions, but we gave him the right to steal us from the Father.

Pieces of Siberia in Atlanta

Atlanta Snow: Pieces of Siberia brokenbreadandsmallfish.com
I dropped Joey off at the airport yesterday morning, bound for three weeks in Russia.  The kids and I remain here preparing for SAT and ACT.  We feel a little jealous  - he will see our home, our old friends, our cat, our adopted country, snow.

I wrote the above paragraph yesterday, as I began the post to explain why there wouldn't be a new Mark post this week.  (btw - no new Mark post this week).  I didn't finish it (not the Mark post  - I didn't finish THAT, either -, but the post explaining that there was no Mark post).  I walked away to deal with a situation, and never came back. Let's just say that Yesterday was a disaster on many levels.   Or at least, I thought it was.
But...

Today
today it's snowing.  Really snowing, like all day kind of snowing.  In Atlanta.  Not unheard of, but not a common occurrence, either.

And so...
I wrote this poem:

Little pieces of Siberia
float around me
shiny slivers
shimmering

Falling
Around me
over me

You rain it down

these tiny pieces
of what I thought I knew
what I can never yet know fully

and my senses are filled up
with what I was missing so desperately
filled up
with a world
I thought was so far off
I couldn't see, smell, hear, feel, touch

but

here it is
pieces of it
shimmering
fluttering
shining
flickering
all around

   all the pieces
     of my life
     are in You

and I
am Yours.

Contented Competing

My angst
over where I am now
is it about
where You want me to be?
or
is it about
where my pride thinks I should be?

Am I chafing
about my circumstances
because of what I think You (truly) want?

or
because of what I want?

Can I be content
with where You have me now
able to come to rest
able to be all here
wholeheartedly
throw myself in
here and now

or
am I restless?
wanting to be somewhere else
or something else
not where I am
not who I am

so that I can somehow
compete
with all I think they think
I should be
with everything I think
I should be

Am I competing
to win the race
for You?

or

am I competing
to win the race
for me?

The Race

picture of runner's legs at the starting line (The Race brokenbreadandsmallfish.com)
Muscles tense
senses alert

who will win?

Me?
or some else on my team?

I want the win.
But

what if
I come in first in this race
but my team doesn't place -
someone fell behind
or didn't finish.

Did I win?

I want the win
but

what if
I don't come in first
but run the race
in such a way
to help my teammates finish
better than they would have
or at all

Did I win?

What would the coach say?
