What Did I Trust You For?

What Did I Trust You For? Waves. brokenbreadandsmallfish.com
It's dark
the waves are high
the wind is roaring
I am trembling.

I myself asked to come to You
You said I could
And I wonder now what I was thinking (Matt14:27-30)

I trusted You,
trusted.
But trusted...
for what?

That there would be no waves?
No storm or night?
No failed attempt to walk on water? (Matt. 14:29-30)

Didn't I know the waves could get this high?

Was I trusting You
to maintain the blue of the sky
to not let in the gray
to keep back the rain
to hold back the waves
...to keep me safe?

But night always comes.

And the storm is always on the horizon
on this sea.

Still...I will come to You across this sea.

The winds will rise.
The waves will break over me. (Ps. 42:7)
They will swallow me
And I will sink beneath them -
I know.

But not alone.

Yes, I will come to You across the sea
And I will fail.
But You will not.

My eyes and my heart will falter,
but
Your eyes will never leave me
Your hand will be on mine
You will pull me out of the depths
And lift me up (Matt. 14:31)
Where there will always be
You.

You know what it is to walk through the storm.
The waves broke over You, too.
