Come now, and eat
(Mark 2:15-17)
You, mirror of these places in my heart
The depths of my own hypocrisy
Cynical questions and glances
Judgement in every pore
Proving - what?
How clever you are?
Clever in your own version of ugliness...
Don't you get tired of it?
Of yourself?
O Pharisee!
Come now, and eat
Don't you know that He is eating with us
So that we can eat with Him?
Don't you know that this feast is spread here for you?
Unbend your heart
Before it shatters in its icy rigidness
Forget about who you're trying to be
Leave the sidelines of this dinner
And join in this feast
Because you are also a sinner
And He is here to eat with you
He has come to call sinners
He has come to call you.
(Mark 2:13-17)
O Pharisee!
He died for you, too.
