(Mark 2:13-14)
The man who takes must choose.
To stay, to refuse
and keep taking, taking,
trying to survive
trying to fill the emptiness
of his vacant, dying life...
Or to get up, and follow,
walking away from all he took,
from all he thought would save -
What will I do?
The emptiness is SO empty, and dark, and cold
But there's a certain kind of strange security
surrounding myself with what I take
Leaving them empty
and me emptier still...
and to follow You?
I will lose it all.
All that I took.
All that I thought I wanted.
But You
You are a King I could follow.
And though You will take it all
everything I thought I wanted
all I wanted to be
And fling it all away from me -
to return to the dust
You give
the One thing I need.
I learn to receive
You.
And I am filled.
"Follow me," You said.
And he did.
