I love fairy tales. I love the way they seem so magical, the way good wins, the way everything works out in the end.
Life - our life - is different. I often wish that our life had more elements of a fairy tale in it.
and yet...
"Three times I pleaded," Paul said. (2 Cor. 12:8-10)
Even when I don't get to make three wishes, even when what I want is not granted, but denied over and over...
Even when I'm suffering instead of enjoying the happy ending...
And even when I find that I am not the good, kind, all-things-lovely-heroine that I thought I was, that I had so hoped to be...
There is grace for me. (2 Cor. 12:9)
Things do happen by "three's" in our story.
Just not...granted wishes.
Our "three's" are terrible, tragic, but stunningly beautiful.
(Jonah 1:17)

(Mark 10:34)
(Mark 14:32-41)
(John 13:38)
(John 18:15-18, 25-27)
(John 21:15-19)
(Luke 24:7)
(2 Cor. 12:8-10)
Sometimes I think I would rather have the wishes granted.
And yet...there is a wild, lonely beauty in our story, in this grace You have given us...
in this our fairy tale - where the prince really does come to seek his bride - but he has to die to save her from the dragon.

Ok, how did I miss that you are a singer/song writer??! Beautiful voice, Michele. Love hearing your poet's heart put to music.
ReplyDeleteMaybe because I am a very obscure one. ;-) Not any reason you should have/could have known.
DeleteThanks for listening, Danielle -
