If My Home Is Yours, Will They Tear My Roof? - Mark 2:1-12 Post 11

Chalkboard: Mark 2:1-12 Post 11
I started to draw the conclusion that if I make my home among others, among people, a village, a town, if I make myself at home and be at home among them, then maybe others will be set free and able to "go home" to You because of it (Mark 2:1-12).

It's true, in a way.  Sometimes You ask us to make
our homes in certain places so others can come home to You.

But the focus is wrong.

The events in this passage (Mark 2:1-12) probably did happen at Simon Peter's house.  But it was not enough for Simon Peter to live there.  The paralyzed man wouldn't have been forgiven his sins, wouldn't have gotten up and headed home, if You hadn't been there.  Simon Peter had to open his home - his heart - to You.

You had been in his home before (Mark 1:29-35).

It was when You came home with him, when his home became Yours, when his village became Yours (Matt. 4:13) -
THEN people were healed, set free, able to serve, able to get up and "go home."

It's not enough for me to be somewhere.

You must come there and be there with me.

Have I opened  my home - my heart - my SELF - for You to live out of? (John 14:23).

If I do, THIS could happen:
Crowds gathered at my door, in my home, no room left inside or out, people tearing through my roof -
to get to You.
Because if they know You're here, they might come like this crowd. (Or they might come like other crowds (Mark 15:14-15)).

I'm not really a crowd person.  I do better with people in smaller groups - best individually.  But this is one of the ways they came to You.  And if (when) I open my life to You, it could (does) get quite crowded.

My roof torn into.
My life torn into.
Is it worth it?

To have You here.
To see You forgive sins.
To see You tell the paralyzed man to get up and go home and then
To SEE HIM DO IT.
To see him and others on their way, healed, forgiven, headed home.
To be part of what You are doing.
To be amazed and praise God with everyone else saying, "I have never seen anything like this!"
