Taken For Granted? - Mark 1:29-34 Post 2

Chalkboard: Mark 1:29-34 Post 2
I'm still thinking about Simon's mother-in-law, and I was wondering:  Did the others take it for granted that she immediately started serving them as soon as her fever left her?  (Mark 1:29-34).

Why am I wondering this?  Well...(do I have to admit it?)

I do sometimes wonder if I'm appreciated, if what I do is...noticed.

So...did they take what she did for granted?

Maybe.  I think it was generally normal and accepted in that era (and in many eras since) for the woman/women of the house to serve the men (and the guests), and it probably was OFTEN (NOT ALWAYS) taken for granted.  So, yes, maybe they did.  Maybe they (or some of them) didn't give it a thought that she had just been sick and now she was serving them.

But does it matter?  What does it change? Does it change the fact that she served You?  Does it change the fact that by serving she had a small part in what happened later that evening?

Even if they did take it for granted, it doesn't change anything.  She still is who she is and did what she did and had her role and You see her, and You know.  It doesn't matter what they thought.  What matters is...what You thought.

You saw and You knew.

I do think, whether or not they took it for granted that day, they didn't in the long run.  Someone noticed.  Someone realized, even if it was years later.  I'm sure of it because Mark wrote: "the fever left her and she began..."(Mark 1:31).

If it had gone completely unnoticed, it wouldn't be mentioned here.

But it is mentioned here.  Here she is, in Scripture, for all who care to see her.  Not by name, but by what You did for her, and what she did for You.

Was it hidden in someone's heart for years, or did You bring it to their minds later?  I don't know.  It doesn't matter.

What matters is that You knew.  You knew her.  You knew how she responded.

Just like You know me.
